THE FOLLOWING are excerpts from a September 20, 2007 letter of mine that I had E-mailed out to multiple addressees:
A. Books I have recently purchased that are available from Berean Beacon (Richard Bennett): Website: www.bereanbeacon.org; address for mail orders: Richard Bennett // c/o Berean Beacon // P.O. Box 192 // Del Valle, TX 78617-0192 (prices listed are POSTAGE PAID prices; please make checks or money orders payable to RICHARD BENNETT):
(1.) 191-page paperback book “History of the Waldenses” by J. A. Wylie; reprinted in 1996 by Hartland Publications; Cassell & Company, LTD; $14 postage paid: The contents of this book were taken from Wylie’s much larger three-volume book set entitled “History of Protestantism”. (The print in this book is darker than in an earlier edition that I already had.) This book deals with the history of the horrible persecution by Papal Rome of these Bible-believing Christians who have been called both Waldenses and Vaudois. Papal Rome butchered hundreds of thousands of these innocent Bible-believing Christians – men, women, and children! The back cover of this book states: “…[The Waldenses] defied the crushing power of [Papal] Rome and rejected its false doctrines and human traditions. This stalwart people cherished and preserved the pure Word of God.” The TRUE history of the Waldenses must continue to be told!
(2.) 244-page paperback book “The Church of Rome at the Bar of History” by William Webster; 1995; reprinted 2003; The Banner of Truth Trust; $16 postage paid: This book wonderfully refutes Papal Rome’s claims (based on her interpretation of Scripture and alleged patristic support) for such doctrines as papal infallibility. It compares Biblical “tradition” versus Roman Catholic man-made tradition. It also examines Roman Catholic teachings on the Eucharist and Mary in the Light of Holy Scripture. This book has a good subject index.
(3.) 347-page paperback book “Ecclesiastical Megalomania: The Economic and Political Thought of the Roman Catholic Church” by John W. Robbins; 1999; 2006; The Trinity Foundation; $22 postage paid: (I have not read all of this book; however, I have scanned much of it, and it appears to be a “must read”.) Some of the chapter titles are: “Liberation Theology”; “Persecution, Inquisition, and Slavery”; “Fascism and Nazism”; “Totalitarianism”; “World Government”; etc. It has important appendices: “The Donation of Constantine” and “The Vatican Decree of 1870”. In the chapter on Fascism and Nazism, this book exposes the massive Roman Catholic hierarchical support for Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and, of course, Fascist Croatia. The author shows clearly how Papal Rome has for many centuries hated freedom, and has so stated in her decrees! The back cover of this book states: “Those who wish to preserve human freedom must understand the philosophy of the Roman Catholic Church.” The reason, in this editor’s opinion: Papal Rome’s ecclesiastical totalitarianism naturally loves State totalitarianism, which can be wonderfully used to advance Papal Rome’s agenda! (This book has an excellent subject index.)
B. Books I have recently purchased that are available from SeedSowers: Phone orders: 1-800-228-2665; website: www.seedsowers.com; E-Mail orders: books@seedsowers.com (prices do NOT include S&H and postage):
(1.) 383-page paperback book “The Man with the Long Shadow” by Clara H. Stuart; 1997; Publisher: WinePress Publishing; $15.99: This is the story of the life of John Wycliffe [born: circa A.D. 1330; died: 1384], the man who “fell into conflict with archbishops and popes”. (Wycliffe was the English reformer who made the first complete translation of the Bible in English.) This book contains no subject index. (I have not read this book yet – though it looks very interesting!)
(2.) 216-page paperback book “John Wycliffe’s Lengthening Shadow” by Clara H. Stuart; 2004; Publisher: Francis Asbury Society; $14.99: This is the story of the Christian men who had been taught Bible truths by Wycliffe, and who had been sent out as “poor priests” two by two to preach the gospel. This book contains no subject index. (I have not read this book yet – though it looks very interesting!)
(3.) 448-page hardback book (with 8 additional pages of color maps) “The Pilgrim Church” by E.H. Broadbent [born-died: 1861-1945]; 1931 and 1999; Publisher: Gospel Folio Press; $24.99: This book, written by a man fluent in French and German, and with some knowledge of Russian (which helped immensely in researching the material used in this book), tells the true story of the Lollards, Waldenses, and other early Christian Bible-believing groups (including some in Russia). It contains an extensive subject index. (I have read much of this book – so far it has been outstanding in its scholarship! The author has used MANY excellent resources – there is a list of them near the front of the book.)
(4.) 250-page paperback book “The Torch of the Testimony” by John W. Kennedy (of India); 1965; Reprinted by SeedSowers Publishing; $14.95: This book deals with the local churches and groupings of local churches that over a 2000-year period were separate from the Protestant-Catholic tradition. It deals with such groups as the Waldenses, Paulicians, Stundists, Anabaptists, etc. It contains a good subject index. (I am currently reading this book – so far it has been very informative.)
C. Books I have recently purchased that are available from Amazing Discoveries (Seventh Day Adventist): Phone orders: 1-800-572-9457; website: www.amazingdiscoveries.org; E-Mail orders: sales@amazingdiscoveries.org (price does NOT include S&H and postage):
(1.) 424-page paperback book “Truth Triumphant: The Church in the Wilderness” by B.G. Wilkinson, Ph.D.; 1994 and 2005; Publisher: TEACH Services, Inc.; $17.95: This book deals with many of the early Christian leaders whose evangelical work was separate from Papal Rome, such as Lucian of Antioch, Vigilantius (a leader of the Waldenses), Patrick, Columbanus, Columba, Aidan, etc. It contains a lengthy subject index. (I am over half way through a careful reading with this book (I have scanned other sections) – thus far it has been a real “eye opener” for me, and super informative in an area where I previously had a great lack of knowledge – and where I still know woefully little!)
(2.) 258-page paperback book “Our Authorized Bible Vindicated” by B.G. Wilkinson, Ph.D.; 2006; Publisher: TEACH Services, Inc.; $13.95: The back cover of this book states that it “explores the history of the Bible throughout the centuries and how it has been preserved in its entirety untainted”. Some of the chapter titles: “Fundamentally, Only Two Different Bibles”; “The Bible Adopted by Constantine and the Pure Bible of the Waldenses”; “Three Hundred Years of Attack on the King James Bible”; “How the Jesuits Captured Oxford University”; etc. (This book contains no subject index.)
The story of the REAL early “church” – which consisted of Bible-believing Christians who met in local fellowships that were NOT under Papal Rome’s authority, and who frequently faced Papal Rome’s brutal persecution – MUST be told! (These Bible-believing Christians, amidst horrible persecution, preserved the true infallible Word of God!) Likewise, the many LIES told about these groups by Papal Rome, which labeled them “heretics” (and worse), etc., MUST be exposed!
D. If you would like to learn more about the super-powerful Jesuit Order, then I would recommend the following “information tools”:
(1.) “The Secret History of the Jesuits” by Edmond Paris; 206 pages; Publisher: Chick Publications; ISBN 0-937958-10-7; $11 postpaid: This book covers the history of the Jesuit Order from its founding in 1534 through World War II. This book reveals the involvement of the Vatican in helping to foment both World War I and World War II, and its involvement in supporting Nazi and Fascist regimes in Europe during World War II. Much of the slaughter that occurred in World War II can be laid directly at the feet of the Vatican and the Jesuit Order.
